Venture Mentoring Service

I am on the Board of Directors of the Midlands Venture Forum. We have been working during the fall to launch a Venture Mentoring Service in Eastern Nebraska, modeled after the MIT Venture Mentoring Service. It also has some similarities to startup accelerators like Techstars, although the program we’re working on does not include any seed funding, and the mentoring is less intensive. We’re hoping to launch this new program in early 2011.

Invest Nebraska New Venture Competition

I was one of the judges in the Invest Nebraska New Venture Competition in late November.  The winner was Energy Pioneer Solutions.  Here are more details. Six companies competed for a $50,000 price in the form of an investment.

This was my first year as a judge. I was impressed by the quality of the companies. Some of the other judges with experience from previous competitions said the quality of participating companies is improving – which is exactly what Invest Nebraska is trying to achieve.
